The FEEDBACK reaction from the audience was Exactly the response I’d hoped for. Positive. Engaged. Subtleties observed e.g. the playing cards. Plus it was good to hear that there was laughter during the screening. Other North American family festivals have rejected it because it they didn’t understand the story – which is baffling. For info, the ‘no fun’ park is actually in Mamaroneck, New York state but we did the filming in west London in the UK.

The biggest change in our industry has been the choice of material that studios and most independent financing companies green light, as what films are made. It used to be that a film like ORDINARY PEOPLE would have no problem going forward, especially with a good director attached. Now, great films like that rarely get made anymore. I miss that.

Interview with Cinematographer Adam Stone (Midnight Special, Take Shelter)

Midnight Special is a unique movie that’s kind of hard to categorize. It’s a genre bending mash-up of a road movie and sci-fi flick that pays homage to Perfect World, Starman, and Close Encounters. The movie starts without much explanation or backstory, all we know a man is on the run with his son. As the movie progresses we learn the boy has special powers and is dying. His father must keep him alive while the government and a religious sect are in pursuit. Despite all of the characters, themes, VFX events, and unanswered plot points the film is very simple. At the core, it’s a story about a father’s love for his son and how he will do anything to save his boy.
