Interview with Screenwriter Kyujin Kim (KINGDOM)

Q1. What is your Screenplay about?

A1. It is to be Fantasy-Political Film. Believe or not, Limur, who is the Main Character of the Pilot, is not the Main Character for the entire TV Show, but he is a Main Antagonist. The Story is about Main Character (son of Rauld) who will be brought to Pella as a hostage after his father is defeated and died, where he will have to endure Limur, trying to find an opportunity to rebel against him to avenge his family and kingdom.

Q2. What Genre does your Screenplay fall under?

A2. Fantasy. The story takes its place in the Fantasy Kingdom called Pella in the Fantasy World known as Kilicia.

Q3. Why should this Screenplay made into a movie?

A3. Simple, and quite personal, because I love it, and want it. I spent many years including my childhood, imaging the Kingdom, studying ancient histories to shape their world, and finally finished its Pilot. I want to share my World with others as well.

Q4. How would you describe this Script in two words?

A4. Impressive Masterpiece

Q5. What movies have you seen the most times in your life?

A5. I’ve watched Fantasy and Sci-Fi Films a lot such as Lord of the Ring, Harry Potter and Alien, but I also watched a lot of Black and White Film in order to study, especially a lot of Alfred Hithcock Film, such as Psycho…

Q6. How long have you been working on this Screenplay?

A6. Good Question. Six month. Three day to actually finish my First Draft, but I had to proofread and rewrite them a lot, which is all about Writing…

Q7. How many stories have you written?

A7. So far about Three. Kingdom, of course, but there are other Fantasy and Sci-
Fi Features I’ve been working on. They are at their Rewriting Stage, which I hope to get it done quickly as possible…

Q8. What is your Favorite Song? (Or, What song have you listened to the most times in your life?)

A8. I love listening to Film or TV Drama OST like from the Star Wars or Lord of the Ring.

Q9. What Obstacle did you face to finish this Screenplay?

A9. “Kingdom,” is supposed to be a Fantasy Screenplay about the Fantasy Kingdom in the Fantasy World. I had to not only introduce the Character and Story, but their World at the same time. I had to find a balance, which was extremely difficult for me. I had to ask several of my friend to read my Screenplay before I submitted it to your Festival to give me a Feedback on how they thought about it…

Q10. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

A10. I am quiet passionate about Teaching. I am currently an English Teacher in South Korea, teaching various age of children how to write, speak, and read in English. I really want to become a successful Screenwriter one day; however, I am also very interested in teaching how to write Screenplay to College Students in the future (perhaps after retirement…)

Q11. You entered your Screenplay via Coverfly. What has been your experiences working with the submission platform site?

A11. This is not the first time, I submitted my Screenplay via Coverfly; however, at the same time, I do not have much experience with Submission Platform Site, other than Coverfly. So far, I enjoy my experience with the Coverfly, because it helps me to track my Submission easily.

Q12. What influenced you to enter the festival? What were your feelings on the initial feedback you received?

A12. I love writing a Screenplay, especially Fantasy & Sci-Fi Screenplay, which is the reason why I decided to submit my Screenplay, “Kingdom,” on your Festival, because the Festival was specifically for the Fantasy and Sci-Fi Screenplay. I thought that if I were to submit my Fantasy Screenplay into Fantasy Specific Festival, it would be better evaluated than other Competition…
I did enjoy my initial feedback. I felt that whoever evaluated my Screenplay put many thought and consideration not only to give the feedback but also to understand the story and my decision behind everything. Thank you very much for the initial feedback on my Screenplay, “Kingdom.”
