1. What motivated you to make this film?
Η απώλεια του πατέρα μου, σε συνδυασμό με την αγάπη για τη γενέτειρά μου, το νησί της Κρήτης στην Ελλάδα.
The loss of my father, combined with the love for my hometown, the island of Crete in Greece.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
Τέσσερα χρόνια. Η σύλληψη της ιδέας για την ταινία έγινε το 2017 και η ολοκλήρωσή της έγινε τέλος του 2020.
Four years. The idea for the film was conceived in 2017 and completed in late 2020.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Αέναος Κύκλος
Eternal Circle
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
Το θετικό δεν είναι να σας αναφέρω το μεγαλύτερο εμπόδιο, αλλά να σας πω ότι τα εμπόδια, όσο μεγάλα κι αν είναι, πρέπει να τα ξεπερνάμε για να μπορούμε να εκπληρώνουμε τους στόχους μας. Έτσι κι έκανα. Άλλωστε η ζωή και η τέχνη είναι ένας αγώνας με τ’ εμποδίων, όπως ακριβώς συμβαίνει και στον αθλητισμό.
The positive thing is not to mention the biggest obstacle, but to tell you that the obstacles, no matter how big, must be overcome in order to be able to fulfill our goals. And so I did. After all, life and art are a race against obstacles, just like in sports.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
Ξεκίνησα με χαμόγελο και κατέληξα με συγκίνηση.
I started with a smile and ended with emotion.

6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
Ασχολούμαι 25 χρόνια θέατρο και κινηματογράφο. Στον κινηματογράφο συμμετείχα μέχρι πρότινος κυρίως ως ηθοποιός, μπροστά από τις κάμερες. Θεωρώ πως ποτέ δεν είναι αργά να ανακαλύπτουμε νέες επιθυμίες και νέα όνειρα, όπως είναι αυτή της κινηματογράφησης, το να βρίσκεται κανείς πίσω από τις κάμερες. Το 2017 που πήγαινα συνεχώς στο νοσοκομείο για να δω το πατέρα μου στην Κρήτη, ήταν εκείνη η χρονιά που μου ήρθε και η πρώτη ιδέα του σεναρίου.
I have been involved in theater and cinema for 25 years. Until recently, I participated in the cinema mainly as an actor, in front of the cameras. I believe that it is never too late to discover new desires and new dreams, such as that of cinema, being behind the cameras. In 2017, when I was constantly going to the hospital to see my father in Crete, that was the year when the first idea for the script came to me.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
Από μικρό παιδί βλέπω παλιές κλασικές ελληνικές ταινίες. Νομίζω πως εξακολουθώ να το κάνω μέχρι και σήμερα γιατί μου επαναφέρει μνήμες και μου δημιουργεί έντονα συναισθήματα: αυτά της αναπόλησης και των αναμνήσεων.
From a young child I watch old classic Greek movies. I think I still do it today because it brings back memories and creates strong emotions: those of reminiscence and memories.
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
Σε αυτό το σημείο θα μου επιτρέψετε να σας συγχαρώ θερμά. Αυτό που κάνετε είναι μοναδικό. Δεν το έχω συναντήσει σε κανένα άλλο Φεστιβάλ. Είναι σημαντικό για ένα Φεστιβάλ να επινοεί τρόπους για να βοηθήσει και να προωθήσει τις ταινίες του όπως εσείς. Ελπίζω να ακολουθήσουν και άλλοι το παράδειγμά σας. Εύχομαι σε εσάς αλλά και σε άλλα Φεστιβάλ, να εφευρίσκουν συνεχώς νέους τρόπους και να μπορέσουν έτσι να προωθούν σωστά και αποτελεσματικά τις ταινίες, τους σκηνοθέτες και τους παραγωγούς.
At this point you will allow me to congratulate you warmly. What you do is unique. I have not encountered it in any other Festival. It’s important for a Festival to come up with ways to help and promote its films like you. I hope others follow your example. I wish you and other Festivals, to constantly invent new ways and thus be able to properly and effectively promote films, directors and producers.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
Είναι μία πλατφόρμα που με θεωρώ πως έχει μεγάλη χρησιμότητα σε σχέση με άλλες αντίστοιχες. Απαιτείται όμως πολύς χρόνος για να την μάθει κανείς ώστε να έχει και την κατάλληλη ανταπόκριση. Ως ανεξάρτητος σκηνοθέτης και παραγωγός, θα πρότεινα περισσότερες προσφορές και καλύτερες τιμές, όχι μόνο από την πλατφόρμα αλλά και από τα ίδια τα Φεστιβάλ, τα οποία τις περισσότερες φορές είναι πολύ ακριβά και απόμακρα από τις παραγωγές. Εκτιμώ ιδιαίτερα κάποια μεγάλα, διάσημα και με πολλά χρόνια εμπειρίας Φεστιβάλ, που έχουν δωρεάν κόστος συμμετοχής και κάποιες φορές, ένα ελάχιστο χρηματικό ποσό. Άλλωστε, το σημαντικότερο σε μία κινηματογραφική διοργάνωση είναι να υπάρχει καλλιτεχνική κινηματογραφική καταξίωση και όχι μόνο οικονομική απολαβή.
It is a platform that I consider to be very useful in relation to other similar ones. But it takes a long time to learn it in order to have the right response. As a freelance director and producer, I would suggest more offers and better prices, not only from the platform but also from the Festivals themselves, which are often very expensive and far from the productions. I especially appreciate some big, famous and with many years of Festival experience, which have free participation costs and sometimes, a minimal amount of money. After all, the most important thing in a film event is to have artistic cinematic prestige and not just financial gain.
10. What is your favorite meal?
Αγαπώ τα “Γεμιστά”. Είναι αμιγώς ελληνικό φαγητό με ντομάτες, πιπεριές και κολοκύθια, γεμισμένα με ρύζι και μυρωδικά. Επίσης, αγαπώ πολύ και τις σαλάτες.
I love “Gemista – Stuffed”. It is a purely Greek food with tomatoes, peppers and zucchini, stuffed with rice and herbs. I also love salads.
11. What is next for you? A new film?
Το σενάριο για την επόμενη ταινία είναι ήδη έτοιμο και κάνω τα πρώτα σχέδια για την πραγματοποίησή της. Παράλληλα, συνεχίζει ακόμη να ταξιδεύει στα Φεστιβάλ η ταινία μας Just Like Water έχοντας μέχρι σήμερα αποσπάσει 62 βραβεία, 36 υποψηφιότητες για το πρώτο βραβείο, έχει φτάσει να είναι 34 φορές φιναλίστ και έχει λάβει 15 τιμητικές διακρίσεις έως σήμερα.
Επίσης, αυτή την περίοδο κάνω πρόβες για το θεατρικό έργο “Τρωάδες” του Ευριπίδη, σε διασκευή του Ζαν-Πωλ Σάρτρ από την ομάδα ΘΕΑΜΑ (θέατρο ατόμων με αναπηρεία), οπού θα κάνουμε περιοδεία το Καλοκαίρι του 2022 σε όλη την Ελλάδα. Την μετάφραση του έργου από τα γαλλικά έχει κάνει η Ελίνα Νταρακλίτσα και την σκηνοθεσία υπογράφει ο Βασίλης Οικονόμου. Εγώ θα υποδυθώ τον ρόλο του βασιλιά Μενέλαου.
The script for the next film is already ready and I am making the first plans for its realization. At the same time, our film Just Like Water continues to travel to the Festivals, having so far won 62 awards, 36 nominations for the first prize, has reached 34 times as a finalist and has received 15 honors to date.
Also, I am currently rehearsing for the play “Trojans” by Euripides, adapted by Jean-Paul Sartre from the group THEAMA (theater of Desabled People), where we will tour in the Summer of 2022 throughout Greece. The translation of the work from French has been done by Elina Daraklitsa and the direction is signed by Vassilis Oikonomou. I will play the role of King Menelaus.
