A JOURNEY TO THE MOON played to rave reviews at the September 2021 ANIMATION Film Festival.
1. What motivated you to make this film?
I could just see it so clearly in my head and felt that I just had to make it! I also think that we need more light hearted and fun films in the world!
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
The film took about 3 years to make from conception to completion. But the project was on hold for the majority of this as DeadlyComic’s was working on several other projects at the time. It was well worth the wait though as he blew away all my expectations! Once he was officially on board the film took about 6 – 8 months to make.
3. How would you describe your short film in two words!?
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
I’m sure DeadlyComics faced the toughest obstacles for this project, but for me the biggest obstacle was the funding. I was several thousand dollars short of what I needed and had never done a crowdfunding campaign before. I was eager to try it out though, so I read a book on crowdfunding, got some advice from friends and built the campaign from there. I learned so much from the experience and was surprised at how enthusiastic people were about supporting us!
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
It was wonderful to see people’s reactions to the film! I was smiling the whole time. There’s a big difference between seeing your film status changing on filmfreeway and seeing/hearing actual people’s faces and reactions. It’s sort of why I like making films. To make people laugh/cry or to make their day. And this video made my day!

6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
I’ve been making films since I was 5 years old, but it wasn’t until I was about 10 when my dad got me a stop motion lego kit that I really started to take it up as a hobby. I’ve been making films ever since.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
It’s actually probably a film called “Murder by Death”. It’s an older film that’s a sort of murder mystery comedy. I say it’s the film I’ve seen the most because I used to have it on as I was going to sleep. It’s not boring or anything, it’s a fun movie. It’s just something that I know by heart, and won’t keep me awake.
8. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway, what are you feelings of the submission platform from a filmmaker’s perspective?
I overall found FilmFreeway quite helpful and had a positive experience. I’d also recommend the gold membership and marketing options too as both were quite helpful in making submissions cheaper. It’s much easier having festivals come to you rather than you coming to them. Though I must say, it was rather overwhelming at first waking up to a sudden 150+ emails.
9. What is your favorite meal?
Curry, with some naan bread and rice is my favorite meal!
10. What is next for you? A new film?
My true passion is writing for television and animation, so currently I am focusing on writing a few pilot scripts for animated shows and submitting those to a few competitions. I’m also working on a few fun music videos and parody videos for my YouTube channel Scootertrix Studios. Busy busy busy. 😉
