Leon Williams’ short film “HOWELL” played at the July 2016 Under 5min. FEEDBACK FIlm Festival. It’s mystery meets supernatural meets comedy with a great twist at the end. A must see short film.
Matthew Toffolo: What motivated you to make this film?
Leon Williams: Nothing in particular. I simply had the idea one day and with the help of some very good people we went and made it.
MT: From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
LW: Pre-Production was about two months trying to sort stuff in between working a full time job. We shot it in a day and it took me about a year in post production, mostly having to wait for big favours before moving on with the next stage of the edit.
MT: How would you describe your short film in two words!?
LW: Dark Comedy
MT: What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
LW: Getting everything shot in just one day. My friend and fellow film maker helped out as the 1st AD and did a brilliant job getting us througg each scene rapidly so we could swiflty move from location to location. I was so fortunate to have such a brilliant cast and crew who were all down for the cause.
MT: What were your initial reactions when watching the Toronto audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
LW: I found it surreal at first. It’s pretty cool aeeing reactions from people so far away enjoying and responding so positively to our little Welsh short film. It’s heartwarming to see such feedback and highly rewarding to hear the laughs.
MT: How did you come up with the idea for this short film?
LW: Honestly I couldnt say. It just came to me. I wrote it down. We shot it.
MT: What film have you seen the most in your life?
LW: Home Alone. As a kid i watched it constantly and still put it on every Christmas.
MT: What is next for you? A new film?
LW: More short films.
