“The Distance” is a 3-min knockout film collaboration between Choreographer Marisa f. Ballaro and Cinematographer Zoran Prodanovic. “The Distance” film was “Round 8” in the live dance production of the same name produced by Ballaro Dance at The Underground Theater in NYC; it was filmed at Overthrow Boxing Club.

1. What motivated you to make this film?
This was completely out of all our comfort zone based on anything we’ve done previously.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
From concept to production to post production. About 3 weeks
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Bad Ass
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
Time. We had the shortest turnaroud of any dance film previously.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
Very grateful and appreciative
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
Personally I realized I wanted to make films was as a kid watching Gladiator for the first time, it was the first time my mind asked…how did they do that?
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
Most watched movie, probably Back to the Future or Terminator 2
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
I think finding a way to share or network or meet and exchange with other fellow dance filmmakers and artists and choreographers. Its a wonderful space to be in and it would be amazing to make new friends and colleagues in this field.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
Very simple and straightforward.
10. What is your favorite meal?
lately…beef ragu pasta with shredded parmesan
11. What is next for you? A new film?
Already planning for a high concept dance film but to shoot with some next level gear.
