Interview with Filmmaker Alessandro Oliva (MY BLOODY BODY)

MY BLOODY BODY, 11min., USA
Directed by Alessandro Oliva
A young woman kills her lover.

Get to know the filmmaker:

1. What motivated you to make this film?

Opportunity above all else. I met the right people through friends at the right time (without Natalie Rutman, Rik Van Hoorn and so many others this would have never happened). I have a motivational issue, so the fact this had such a good shot of being made actually got me going.

2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?

I wrote the script for a film class I was taking in early 2022. It was rejected as one to produce, so I planned to shoot it myself in my house with friends. That plan eventually fell through. I had another opportunity in the summer, but it also fell through. Finally in very late August, on the third try, it was shot.

3. How would you describe your film in two words!?

Romantic procedural.

4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?

Motivation.

5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?

I was really pleased that it was well-received! And I’m glad so many people were fans of the creative choices and aesthetics!

6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?

Probably sometime in high school. I began making “real” movies when I was around sixteen years old.

7. What film have you seen the most in your life?

Buffalo ’66.

8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?

Not sure. You guys did a pretty cool job as it is.

9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?

It’s been good.

10. What is your favorite meal?

I’ve really been into chicken parmesan lately.

11. What is next for you? A new film?

Whatever happens happens.
