1. What motivated you to make this film?
When the pandemic hit, I lost about two years of theater work, I was bummed, but my good friend Alison Barton encouraged me to make a film and start writing from personal experiences. Pullout was the first thing I ever wrote, then we all made it together.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
From the kick off creative call, to receiving the final cut about a full year.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
hostile hospitality
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
Budget, Filming with no A/C on the hottest day in June 🙂
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
Thrilled! They understood what we were going for and were so complimentary. It was my first time truly receiving feedback. I found it very encouraging.

6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
We started writing as a duo, and wanted to get our stuff out there, and saw directing it as the means to doing that. It’s since evolved into a true passion and creative expression all its own.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
Probably Mrs Doubtfire, or Fifth Element.
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
I think you are doing a fantastic Job! For me, the goal of this film is to get to the next one and meet people who I can collaborate with. Maybe a zoom night where the filmmakers can meet each other and exchange contacts? Something that can help us cultivate community.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
There are a few scammers, but overall its been a great resource for a filmmaker just beginning. I do wish the people at filmfreeway phised out the “illegitimate” festivals from the good ones.
10. What is your favorite meal?
Sushi, or a good Bagel moment. I believe we will all be having our bagels before this interview.
11. What is next for you? A new film?
My other film ShirtTugger is in circulation at film festivals currently.
