1. What motivated you to make this film?
The inspiration behind this film is very personal. I wrote the concept for the film when I emerging from a dark period in my life, and had some tough life-altering decisions to make.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
The animation for this film took about 6 months. 8 months total.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Dark, mysterious
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
The animation itself was quite challenging, as it was on black paper, which meant I couldn’t trace frames. However my largest obstacle was myself. Nearing the end of creating the film I became hesitant to idea of putting what I saw to be a very personal piece out into the world, which made it difficult both to work on and complete.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
It was a great experience to hear the varied reactions to the film, especially because the film is deliberately ambiguous. I’m thankful that the viewers came away with unique interpretations because as the creator of the piece I have my own very personal take on the imagery shown.

6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
I have always been interested in the animation process, however I was in university studying art and animation when I realized I wanted to make films independently as a part of my art practice.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
When I was a child I was really into ‘The Land Before Time’, so technically that film, however as an adult, I really enjoy the work of Charlie Kaufman, in particular ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ and ‘Synecdoche, New York’. Each time I view these films I experience new interpretations and insights.
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
It’s been pretty good.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
Good.
10. What is your favorite meal?
I love anything cooked over a fire.
11. What is next for you? A new film?
I am currently considering doing a claymation film exploring the concept of generational trauma. I have a lot of work to do to refine the storyboards before beginning, however I think working with clay, including trying the strata animation technique (slicing into layers of clay to reveal animation) will be an interesting experience. I definitely enjoy exploring new techniques and challenging myself when creating my work.
