Filmmaker Claire Rose Kennedy (THE THREAD)

THE THREAD, 6min,. USA
Directed by Claire Rose Kennedy
In which we discover, detangle, and hopefully destroy the intergenerational threads that keep us from fully expressing our creativity. It’s not as pretentious as it sounds. Promise.

Get to know the filmmaker:

1. What motivated you to make this film?

I started out many years ago wanting to make a short film just to see if I could. But then, as the years dragged on and I couldn’t seem to finish it, the completion became about something bigger.

2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?

It took about 15 years, which is insane.

3. How would you describe your film in two words!?

The. Thread.

4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?

Myself. I couldn’t finish it until I could clarify the vision, which was cloudy for an awful long time.

5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?

Well, the fun of zoom is getting to see inside people’s lives for a minute – get a glimpse of who they are by the space they inhabit, so initially, I was really curious about these wonderful women who took the time to watch and respond to the film.

6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?

Since my mom let me watch Shirley Temple movies on VHS as a little girl.

7. What film have you seen the most in your life?

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Big Lebowski, Oceans 11

8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?

This has been really lovely, thank you.

9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?

Okay. I confess I’ve been really scattered with life so I haven’t been as focused as I would have liked.

10. What is your favorite meal?

One with my husband after the kids are asleep and we can laugh about the day together.

11. What is next for you? A new film?

Yes, I’m working on a fun little :30 spot and then directing a feature script my husband wrote.
