Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
Sól is my daughter and has been my muse her entire life. In my mind’s eye, I automatically see films when I hear Sól’s music. And because I know her so well, Sól has said that I accurately bring forth a visual accompaniment to what she is communicating sonically. Constellations is a powerfully vulnerable song, and I wanted to give visual justice to her emotional veracity.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
We have been planning and executing this video since September 2021.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Inner Space
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
Being able to execute and honor our vision within budget!
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
“Wow! They got it!”
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
My spirit was telling me all my life. My mind and body got the memo when Sól was 4 years old and I started shooting my first film, starring her, just for her.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
Singing in the Rain
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
I don’t really know. I think you are wonderful and I am looking forward to hearing more about the industry showcase.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
So far so good. I remember the Withoutabox days.
10. What is your favorite meal?
Indian food- period.
11. What is next for you? A new film?
I work as a scripty for other directors, there are a few films coming up that I will be working on. I am always managing/ working on/ directing/ producing/ editing Sól’s creative (and acting endeavors) including music videos, socials, live performances, etc. (there’s a show coming up on June 19th at Dusable Museum- Juneteenth- 50th anniversary of Hip Hop).
